Dr Singh, who was India’s prime minister from 2004 and 2014, will continue to enjoy Z plus security cover — one of the highest — to be given by one of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), preferably by the CRPF
As per Home Ministry “The current security cover review is a periodical and professional exercise based on threat perception that is purely based on professional assessment by security agencies.
The decision to withdraw the security provided by the Special Protection Group (SPG), the country’s highest grade of protection, was taken after a three-month review involving the Cabinet Secretariat and the Ministry of Home Affairs with inputs from various intelligence agencies.
With the removal of SPG cover from Singh, the top notch security cover will now be given by the SPG only to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Gandhis — Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka.

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi on Friday backed party leader Jairam Ramesh’s remarks on Narendra Modi, saying demonising the prime minister was “wrong” and acts must be judged issue-wise, not person-wise.
Speaking at a book launch on Wednesday, former Union minister Ramesh had said Modi’s governance model was “not a complete negative story”, adding that not recognising his work and demonising him all the time was not going to help.
Echoing Ramesh’s views, Singhvi tweeted: “Always said demonising Modi wrong. Not only is he PM of nation, a one way opposition actually helps him.”
“Acts are always good, bad and indifferent they must be judged issue wise and not person wise. Certainly, ujjawala scheme is only one amongst other good deeds,” he said.
Ramesh had also cited how successful the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUJ) had turned out for Modi

The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.
Top Congress leaders Smt Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel and Anand Sharma were among those who were present during the oath taking in the Chairman’s chamber.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and some BJP leaders were also present.
Ex PM Dr Singh, 86, has come back as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. He was elected unopposed as the BJP did not put up a candidate against him.
Singh returned to the Rajya Sabha after a brief gap since his retirement from the Upper House on June 14 this year.
He had earlier represented the state of Assam in Rajya Sabha for a long period.

The Punjab government will take the technical support of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank to canalise all rivers in the state.
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announced this after taking stock of flood-hit area in Sultanpur Lodhi,
In Sarupwal of Sultanpur Lodhi, where the overflowing Sutlej led to a breach in the embankment, affecting 62 villages, the Chief Minister promised due compensation to the affected farmers as soon as the water receded and a special ‘girdawri’ (crop loss assessment) was completed.
The chief minister told mediapersons in Jalandhar district that even if the Union government failed to extend its support, the state government would ensure full assistance to the affected people.
The state government had sought a Rs 1,000-crore special package from the Centre.
The CM also inspected the breach in Gidderpindi of Jalandhar, resulting from the release of excess water from the Bhakra dam.
For the first time, the Bhakra, which normally filled to its permissible storage level of 1,680 feet by September, was overflowing in August, said the CM.

केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रालय में विशेष कर्तव्य अधिकारी के रूप में काम कर रहे अजय कुमार भल्ला को गुरुवार को देश का नया गृह सचिव नियुक्त किया गया।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र भाई दामोदर दास मोदी की अध्यक्षता वाली कैबिनेट नियुक्ति समिति ने नए गृह सचिव के रूप में भल्ला की नियुक्ति को मंजूरी प्रदान कर दी। वह राजीव गौबा की जगह लेंगे जिन्हें बुधवार को नया कैबिनेट सचिव नियुक्त किया गया था।
भल्ला 1984 बैच के असम-मेघालय कैडर के आईएएस अधिकारी हैं। 24 जुलाई को गृह मंत्रालय में विशेष कर्तव्य अधिकारी के रूप में अपनी नियुक्ति से पहले वह केंद्रीय ऊर्जा सचिव थे।
गृह सचिव के रूप में अगस्त 2021 तक उनका दो साल का कार्यकाल होगा।

US President Donald Trump has said that he would discuss with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the situation in Kashmir and help ease the Indo-Pak tensions when they meet at the G7 Summit in France this weekend.Trump’s comments to a question on the tension between India and Pakistan came a day after he made separate phone calls to Prime Minister Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday while welcoming visiting Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Trump said he was happy to try and help calm the situation in Kashmir amidst fresh Indo-Pak tensions after India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Tensions between India and Pakistan spiked after India abrogated provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution to withdraw Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories, evoking strong reactions from Pakistan.
India has categorically told the international community that the scrapping of Article 370 of the Constitution to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter and also advised Pakistan to accept the reality

[New Delhi]Chidambaram’s Custodial Interrogation is Required :HC Dismissed Anticipatory Bail Plea
High Court is of prima facie opinion that custodial interrogation of Chidambaram is required for an effective investigation in the case.
Congress leader P Chidambaram Tuesday discussed with senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Salman Khurshid the situation after the Delhi High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea in corruption and money laundering cases related to the INX Media scam.
Sibal was asked by Supreme Court official to place Chidambaram’s petition before Registrar (judicial) who will take call for putting it before the Chief Justice of India.
Sibal met Registrar (judicial) Surya Pratap Singh and explained him the situation and what could be done.
The development came minutes after the high court declined interim protection from arrest to Chidambaram for approaching the Supreme Court.
After the high court denied him relief, senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Chidambaram, sought stay on the operation of the order for three days, which the court denied

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was stopped at the Jammu airport on Tuesday and sent back to Delhi,The second time in a month the former chief minister was not allowed to visit Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on August 8, Azad was briefly detained and sent back from the Srinagar airport after the administration imposed restrictions following the Centre’s move to scrap the state’s special status and bifurcate it into Union territories.

BSP President Mayawati on Tuesday termed the fee hike by the CBSE for Class 10 and 12 examinations as unfortunate and demanded its immediate withdrawal
The BSP president said SC/ST students will now have to pay a higher fees.
“Similarly, the fee for general category students has also been doubled. This is a very unfortunate, racist and anti-poor decision. CBSE should take it back immediately. This is the demand of BSP,” she said on Twitter.
Mayawati’s reaction comes after the board notified the changes in the fees last week and asked schools which had already begun the registration process and charged students as per the old fee structure, to collect the difference in the amount.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the fees of Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by up to Rs 1,150, the first hike in the last five years, according to board officials.
The fees for general category students for both Class 10 and 12 have been doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects.
