(New Delhi) Rajat Sharma Resigned From Post of TopBrass of DDCA
Senior journalist Rajat Sharma on Saturday resigned from the post of president of Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA), citing his inability to continue amidst “various pulls and pressures” within the organisation.
Sharma’s nearly 20-month tenure was a tumultuous one with his public differences with general secretary Vinod Tihara, who enjoys a fair amount of support base in the organisation.
“The cricket administration here is full of pulls and pressures all the time. I feel that vested interests are always actively working against the interest of cricket,” Sharma said in a statement.
Sharma had joined cricket administration after receiving active backing from former finance minister late Arun Jaitley.

The Venue Committees at District level have been constituted in order to make the World Kabaddi Cup tournament a memorable event. Sports Minister rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi had recently announced that World Kabaddi Cup would be organized which would be dedicated to the 550th Prakash Purb of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The matches would be played at Amritsar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Bathinda, Patiala and Ropar.
Chairman of the committees would be the DC of the concerned district whereas the Police Commissioner/SSP, ADC, DPRO, Civil Surgeon, 2 nominated members of the Punjab Kabaddi Association would be its members. The concerned District Sports Officer would be the Convenor of the commitee.
The committees have been assigned the task of completing various arrangements such as the repair works at the stadiums, renovation, arrangements for toilets, whitewashing and ensuring seating capacity for 15000-20000 persons by November 25th.

The club’s director Ranjit Bajaj said, “There is a sense of positivity and excitement for the upcoming season and we are confident of putting up a good show.
“This is the best thing to have happened to football in north India, and Punjab in specific, and it will ensure an even stronger presence of football in the region.

India dismissed South Africa for 191 runs in their second innings on the fifth and final day to win the opening Test by 203 runs on Sunday.
Defending a 395-run target, India rode on bowling exploits of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami to complete the win and help the team take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.
Shami took five wickets and Jadeja scalped four, while Ravichandran Ashwin took one to equal Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan in becoming the joint fastest to take 350 wickets.
Resuming at 11 for one, South Africa were reduced to 117 for 8 at lunch.
In the post-lunch session, the Proteas lost the remaining two wickets, bundld out for 191 in 63.5 overs.
On Saturday, India declared their second innings at 323-4 in 67 overs to set an improbable 395-run target for South Africa.
South Africa were 11-1 at stumps on day four.
Earlier, the Proteas were bowled out for 431 in their first innings in reply to India’s 502 for seven declared.

His panel swept all six posts in a tension-ridden election of the state body.
Vaibhav scored a resounding 25-6 victory over Ram Prakash Choudhary to bag the top post. He enjoyed support from C P Joshi and Vaibhav rewarded the outgoing RCA president by making him the chief patron of the association.
After losing Lok Sabha election from Jodhpur, Vaibhav was later nominated as treasurer of Rajsamand District Association, paving his entry into the RCA.
Amin Pathan was elected vice president while Mahendra Sharma became the new secretary.
KK Neemawat and Mahendra Nahar were elected as joint secretaries.
Brajkishore Upadhyaya was elected as an executive member.
The challenge of the Lalit Modi faction, led by another senior congress leader Rameshwar Dudi, lost the sting after three district associations — Nagaur, Sri Ganganagar and Alwar — were disqualified by the election officer RR Rashmi.
They were suspended by RCA and the nominations filed by their officials were rejected amidst a lot of chaos and angry exchanges between the two warring factions.
National selector Gagan Khoda did not turn up for voting.

The Supreme Court Friday quashed an FIR against BJP MP Anurag Thakur, former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and others in a case related to alleged irregularities in granting land on lease for construction of the Dharamshala cricket stadium.
Thakur, who is a BJP MP from Hamirpur and was then the HPCA president, had contended in the apex court that the case was actually a civil dispute
The FIR in the case was registered by the Dharamshala office of the Vigilance Bureau on August 1, 2013, months after the Congress government assumed power in December 2012.

Kohli, who amassed 593 runs at an average of 59.3 in the series which the visitors lost by 1-4 margin, had started the series 27 points behind Australia’s Steve Smith and finished one point ahead of his closest rival.
Kohli had first reached the top of the world after the Edgbaston Test and then reclaimed the top spot after the Trent Bridge Test. He will now defend his number-one ranking in the two-Test home series against the West Indies, which starts on October 4.
