भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम ने मंगलवार को आर. प्रेमदासा स्टेडियम में खेले गए ट्वेंटी-20 विश्व कप के सुपर-8 दौर के अंतिम मुकाबले में पहले बैटिंग करके भी दक्षिण अफ्रीका को हरा दिया लेकिन इसके बावजूद सेमीफाइनल की पिच तक नहीं पहुंच सकी। सेमीफाइनल में पहुंचने के लिए भारत को दक्षिण अफ्रीका को कम से कम 31 रनों के अंतर से हराना था लेकिन उसे एक रन के अंतर से ही जीत मिल सकी। दक्षिण अफ्रीका जब चैंपियनशिप में पहुंचा तो आईसीसी रैंकिंग में पहले स्थान पर था लेकिन अब वह पांचवें स्थान पर खिसक गया है जबकि 2007 का चैंपियन भारत इस जीत से दूसरे स्थान पर पहुंच गया है. युवराज सिंह को 15 गेंद पर 21 रन बनाने और 23 रन देकर दो विकेट लेने के लिये मैन ऑफ द मैच चुना गया.दक्षिण अफ्रीकी टीम सुपर-8 दौर में एक भी मैच नहीं जीत सकी इस तरह ग्रुप-1 से होस्ट श्रीलंका और वेस्टइंडीज और ग्रुप-2 से आस्ट्रेलिया और पाकिस्तान को अंतिम चार में पहुंचने का मौका मिल गया। पाकिस्तान ने इससे पहले खेले गए अपने अंतिम मुकाबले में आस्ट्रेलिया को 32 रनों से हराकर नेट रन रेट के आधार पर भारत पर बढ़त हासिल कर ली थी। युवराज सिंह को 15 गेंद पर 21 रन बनाने और 23 रन देकर दो विकेट लेने के लिये मैन ऑफ द मैच चुना गया
भारतीय टीम की ओर से रखे गए 153 रनों के लक्ष्य का पीछा करते हुए दक्षिण अफ्रीका ने 19.5 ओवरों में 151 रनों पर अपने सभी विकेट गंवा दिए। भारत की ओर से लक्ष्मीपति बालाजी और जहीर खान ने तीन-तीन विकेट लेकर अपनी टीम की जीत सुनिश्चित की लेकिन ये गेंदबाज बड़ी देर से नींद से जागे। डुप्लेसिस ने अपनी 38 गेंदों की पारी में छह चौके और दो छक्के लगाए। इसके अलावा ज्यां पाल ड्यूमिनी ने भी 16 रन बनाए। युवराज सिंह ने दो विकेट लेकर एक बार फिर अनियमित गेंदबाज के तौर पर अपनी उपयोगिता साबित की।
भारत को अंतिम चार में जगह बनाने के लिए यह मैच कम से कम 31 रनों के अंतर से जीतना था लेकिन दक्षिण अफ्रीकी टीम डुप्लेसिस के शानदार 65 रनों की बदौलत 17वें ओवर में ही 122 रन बनाने में सफल रही।
इस मुकाम पर पहुंचकर भारत के हाथ से सेमीफाइनल में पहुंचने का मौका निकल गया। इसके बाद खिलाड़ियों को भी पता था कि वे मैच जीत भी गए तो उन्हें घर का टिकट कटाना होगा। अंत में भारत जीता लेकिन सिर्फ एक रन के अंतर से।भारत के कमजोर छेत्र रक्षण से सिंगल और दो रन के रफ़्तार कम नही हुई
इससे पहले, भारत ने टॉस हारने के बाद पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए निर्धारित 20 ओवरों में छह विकेट पर 152 रन बनाए।
भारत की ओर से गौतम गम्भीर और वीरेंद्र सहवाग ने पारी की शुरुआत की। दोनों बल्लेबाजों ने सस्ते में विकेट्स गवां दिए पहले विकेट के लिए 23 रन ही जुड़े | गम्भीर आठ रन के निजी योग पर तेज गेंदबाज मोर्ने मोर्कल की गेंद पर बोल्ड हो गए।
बेहतरीन फॉर्म में चल रहे कोहली इस मैच में विराट स्वरुप नहीं दिखा पाए और वह छह गेंदों पर दो रन बनाकर पवेलियन लौट गए। कोहली को जैक्स कैलिस की गेंद पर विकेट कीपर अब्राहम डिविलियर्स ने कैच किया। मैच हारने पर कोहली की आँखों में आंसू देखे गए विस्फोटक सलामी बल्लेबाज सहवाग के रूप में भारत का तीसरा विकेट गिरा। सहवाग को 17 रन के निजी योग पर स्पिनर रॉबिन पीटरसन ने बोल्ड किया। सहवाग ने 14 गेंदों पर एक चौका और एक छक्का लगाया। बाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज युवराज सिंह को 21 रन के निजी योग पर मोर्कल ने बोल्ड किया। युवराज ने रोहित शर्मा के साथ मिलकर चौथे विकेट के लिए 32 रन जोड़े।
रोहित के रूप में भारत का पांचवां विकेट गिरा, जिन्हें 25 रन के निजी योग पर पीटरसन ने पगबाधा किया। रोहित ने सुरेश रैना के साथ मिलकर पांचवें विकेट के लिए 45 रन जोड़े। रैना 44 रन बनाकर रनआउट हुए जबकि कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धौनी (23) नाबाद लौटे।
दक्षिण अफ्रीका की ओर से मोर्कल और पीटरसन ने दो-दो जबकि कैलिस ने एक विकेट झटका। दक्षिण अफ्रीका जब चैंपियनशिप में पहुंचा तो आईसीसी रैंकिंग में पहले स्थान पर था लेकिन अब वह पांचवें स्थान पर खिसक गया है जबकि 2007 का चैंपियन भारत इस जीत से दूसरे स्थान पर पहुंच गया है|
