Samsung May Set up a Battery Manufacturing Plant in India

[New Delhi] Samsung is studying the feasibility of setting up a manufacturing plant in India
A delegation of senior executives of Samsung SDI led by the President and CEO of Samsung SDI Shri Sangjin Park met the Minister for Communications and Information Technology Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad today.
The CEO had met the Minister last month at Seoul where the Minister had shared with him the Digital India vision of the Prime Minister, the great potential that India has in the field of electronic manufacturing and the changed business environment in India.
The Minister and CEO discussed the great opportunity Indian markets offer for companies like Samsung.
The Minister shared with the CEO that Indian consumers have become quality conscious and Samsung which is globally known for its quality can tap this growing quest for quality products among consumers.
This coupled with the conducive business environment created by this government and the ambitious Digital India program makes a case for Samsung to expand its manufacturing capacities in India.
. Samsung SDI, which is world’s leading company in energy storage solutions and offers diverse products ranging from mobile phone batteries+automotive batteries + other smart energy storage solutions, is very optimistic about Indian markets and the positive changes in business environment.

India Demands Democratisation of Global Affairs of Telecommunications+Internet Governance
19th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference opened its doors to over 3,000 delegates and almost 600 local and international media today in one of the world’s most wired cities, with Host Country the Republic of Korea promising the most high-tech conference facilities ever offered at a UN treaty-making event.

Indian Delegation to the ITU’s Conference Lead by Communications and Information Technology Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad called for Democratisation of Global Affairs of Telecommunications and Internet Governance
India wants democratisation and broad-basing of the global affairs of telecommunications and internet governance.
This was the main message taken forward by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad while he led the Indian delegation at the inaugural of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Conference at Busan in South Korea.
The Conference was inaugurated by the President of Republic Of South KoreaITU.
India’s point is that ITU should take leadership and partner with UN and other International/Regional organizations in executing the Information and Communication Technology projects and programs in developing countries. India also wants the ITU to be the supervisory authority of Space Assets. India expressed its desire that ITU should play a more active role in the global Internet governance as envisaged during the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).
The Indian delegation has been participating in The Plenipotentiary Conference, which is the top policy-making body of the 193 member strong International Telecommunications Union. It meets once in every four years. India has also been pitching for a re-election into the ITU Council.
During the visit, the Minister also met the President and the CEO of Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. Mr. Sang Jin Park in Seoul. The Minister shared the ideas of ‘Digital India’ and the initiative of ‘Make In India’, of the present Indian government with the CEO. The CEO was curious about the changed business environment in India and he informed the Minister about his proposed visit to India next month. The minister also met various other business leaders in the fields of electronics, communication and Information technology.
