Punjab reported the sharpest single-day spike of 1,946 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, pushing the COVID-19 tally to 63,473 in the state.
The previous record of new cases reported in a day was 1,746 on August 27.
Fifty-four more COVID-19 deaths took the toll to 1,862 in the state, according to a government medical bulletin.
Thirteen deaths were reported from Ludhiana, eight from Patiala, six from Kapurthala, five from Amritsar, three each from Faridkot, Moga, Jalandhar and Bathinda, two from Pathankot, Muktsar and Hoshiarpur and one each from Barnala, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran, it said.
Among places which reported new cases included Jalandhar (261), Pathankot (205), Gurdaspur (186), Bathinda (168), Ludhiana (161), Mohali (154), Patiala (150), Hoshiarpur (135), Amritsar (133) and Faridkot (88).
Punjab has been seeing a surge in the number of coronavirus cases and adding over 1,000 coronavirus cases every day for a few days.
There are 16,156 active Covid-19 cases in the state, as of now, according to the bulletin.
Seventy one critical patients are on ventilator support while 571 are on oxygen support
A total of 11,93,260 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state

(Mumbai) Shiv Sainik Raut Seeks Apology from Actress Kangana over Comments on Mumbai and Maharashtra.
Ranaut in a tweet recently compared Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Asked if he would apologise for his remark against Ranaut while reacting to her tweet on a TV channel, Raut told reporters that “anybody who lives and works here and speaks ill of Mumbai, Maharashtra and Marathi people, I would say apologise first”.
In a tweet, Ranaut recently asked, “Why is Mumbai feeling like Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir?”. She had tagged a September 1 news report where Raut purportedly said she should not come back to Mumbai if she was afraid of the city police.
The Rajya Sabha member on Friday urged the Maharashtra government to take against people defaming the city police.
He had also asked Ranaut to tour the PoK first to see the situation prevailing there.
Ranaut, who is currently in her home state Himachal Pradesh, also tweeted that she will be returning to Mumbai on September 9 and dared anyone to stop her.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is tested negative for Covid.
The Chief Minister had isolated himself after coming in contact with two MLAs who had later tested positive.
He came in contact with the legislators in the Vidhan Sabha on August 28 during a one-day session of the House.Captain Amarinder, who presided over a virtual high-level meeting of ministers,
Congress MLAs and senior officials, disclosed during the interaction that he had got himself tested today and was found negative. This was the 3rd time the Chief Minister had got himself tested for Coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic.

इस ज्ञापन में बताया गया कि किस तरह पीड़ितों के कंपनसेशन क्लेम स्वीकारे गए।उन्हें पाकिस्तान के साथ एडजस्ट किया गया।पीड़ितों को कंपनसेशन अलॉट किये गए मगर पीड़ितों को कंपनसेशन दिए नही गए। 
इस भ्र्ष्टाचार पर पर्दा डालने के लिए 5 सितंबर 2005 में काला कानून थौपा गया जिसके माध्यम से 1947 में भारत आये रिफ्यूजियों के कंपनसेशन क्लेम सम्बन्धी सभी राइट्स समाप्त कर दिए गए। इस काले कानून को समाप्त करके कंपनसेशन देने की गुहार लगाई गई है

The Allahabad High Court on Friday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to fill the post of state Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) within four weeks.
A bench of justices P K Jaiswal and D K Singh passed the order on a petition moved by Nutan Thakur, an activist.
Post was lying vacant since February.

विशिष्ट शासन सचिव, ग्रामीण विकास विभाग किशन ने सांसद स्थानीय क्षेत्र विकास योजना के समस्त 26 नोडल जिलों के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी को निर्देश दिये कि जिलों में योजनान्तर्गत 14वीं लोकसभा, 15वीं लोकसभा एवं पूर्व-राज्यसभा सांसदों के खुले पड़े बैंक खातों को शीघ्र बंद करते हुए अवशेष राशि को वर्तमान निर्वाचित सांसदों के सांसद कोष में हस्तातंरण किया जाना सुनिश्चित करें। इससे योजनान्तर्गत उपलब्ध राशि का वर्तमान लोकसभा, राज्यसभा सांसदों की अनुशंषा पर विकास कार्यों हेतु उपयोग में लिया जा सकेगा।
श्री किशन शुक्रवार को सांसद स्थानीय क्षेत्र विकास योजना में सांसदों के बैंक खातों को बंद करने के संबंध में आयोजित दो दिवसीय वीडियो काॅंफ्रेंस के माध्यम से मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारियों से चर्चा कर रहे थे।
उन्होंने कहा कि योजनान्तर्गत नोडल जिलों में कुल 79 बैंक खाते खुले पड़े है जिसमें पूर्व के व 14वीं लोकसभा के 21 बैंक खाते, 15वीं लोकसभा के 24 खाते एवं पूर्व-राज्यसभा सदस्यों के 34 बैंक खाते खुले पड़े है।

Covid patients in home isolation in Punjab will no longer have to suffer the fear and stigma of social isolation resulting from posters affixed at the entrance of their homes.
In a major step towards mitigating the stigma attached to the pandemic, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday rescinded his government’s earlier decision of putting posters outside the houses of Covid patients under home isolation or quarantine. Posters where already affixed may be removed
The Chief Minister urged the people to continue taking all necessary precautions and follow all applicable guidelines for home isolation/quarantine notwithstanding the removal of the posters. Violation of these guidelines is a punishable offence under Disaster Management Act, Epidemic Diseases Act and IPC
It may be recalled that the Government of Punjab had recently allowed Home Isolation for asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic Covid patients, who did not suffer from any co-morbidities, as per the protocol of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and recommendations of ICMR. In fact, as the number of cases in the state continued to rise, home isolation for these patients was actively advocated and facilitated, with constant monitoring by Local Health Authorities. The monitoring was aimed at ensuring the best possible care for such patients in terms of environment, diet etc. and also to make sure that L3/ L2 beds were available for those who needed them. To make the community aware and act as a check on possible violation by the patient of the home isolation guidelines, posters indicating that a positive patient was under home isolation were being affixed on the front door of the house.
