[Chd,Pb] Sidhu Inks MoU to Clean & Beautify Drains
This was disclosed today by the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu on the occasion of the inking of an MoU between the Punjab Government and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).
The MoU was inked by the Principal Secretary Local Government Department, Punjab, . A. Venu Prasad and Scientist & Head NEERI Dr. S.K. Goyal.
As per Sidhu Nallahs in Punjab had become the dumping grounds for the Industrial waste, building material and dead animals, completing making the place an eyesore and toxic.
This needed to stop and solution was needed which has been found now.
Minister further said that this project to clean the ‘Nallahs’ will be launched in a phased manner from March this year in the cities of Punjab including
Budha Nallah of Ludhiana.
The Minister also examined a detailed presentation by the NEERI team.
The Minister expressed strong hope that things would change for the better in around two years after the formalities are completed.

Narendra Modi became the first Indian prime minister to address the World Economic Forum (WEF) here today during which he talked about “serious” challenges and “grave concerns” facing the world, including terrorism.
Climate change and terrorism are grave concerns before the world, Modi said, while asserting that terrorism is dangerous but what is equally dangerous is the “artificial distinction” made between ‘good terrorist’ and ‘bad terrorist’.
He also said India’s position on the menace of terrorism is well known and he would not like to elaborate on that.
The prime minister, who arrived here yesterday, said issues of peace, security and stability have emerged as serious global challenges.
He also noted that the last time when an Indian prime minister came here in 1997, India’s GDP was a little more than $ 400 billion, but now it has increased more than six-times.
Referring to WEF’s theme of ‘Creating a shared future in a fractured world’, he said the Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) has become more relevant in today’s time to address fissures and distances in the world.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada for cooperation in the field of Science & Technology.
The MoU will provide a mechanism and help to foster scientific cooperation between R&D and academic institutions of India and Canada.
This will help to develop institutional networking and support the establishment of connections between scientific organizations, scientists and specialists of India and Canada.
The MoU was concluded in pursuance to the inter-governmental Agreement for Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the India and Canada concluded in November 2005
