Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply to Shri Dilip kumar Mansukhlal Gandhi in Lok Sabha today. informed
that Only 30 acres of land under Military Farm Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) has been made available to Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for development of national milk breed for cow.
Military Farms at Meerut+Pimpari+ Bangdubi+ Ambala+ Lucknow +Jammu having a total of 27 bulls are rearing bulls for transfer to Bull Rearing Unit of ICAR. Data is also provided to ICAR, for analysis by Jhansi, Secunderabad, Guwahati, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Bareily and Jabalpur Military farms
Army HQ has already consented for the closure of this system of distribution of milk etc to the uniformed force .Audit has also declared it a uneconomical arrangement .
This decision will close down 39 military farms in Two Phases. there are n.a.23 thousands cattle
