President Barack Obama Honored Sergeant Ty M. Carter of U.S. Army for Conspicuous gallantry against Taliban fighters In Afghanistan. The first time in nearly half a century, since the Vietnam War, this gallantry award has been presented to two survivors of the same battle.
In the East Room of the White House ON Aug. 26, 2013 This ceremony was arranged wherein President Obama presented the Medal of Honor to Army Staff Sgt. Ty M. Carter.
President Obama applauded Staff Sergeant Carter. While describing the sacrifices of Carter ,Obama informed that Carter was one of 53 American soldiers who were attacked , In Their Sleep,by 300 Taliban Fighters on October 2009
President Obama told the story of Carter’s actions in battle that day, which he called the “essence of true heroism – ‘not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.’”
Obama said that The choice, it seemed, was simple — stay and die, or make a run for it. Sergeant Ty returned to the fight. With much of the outpost on fire, the flames bearing down on the aid station, with so many wounded inside, saved the aid station, and helped to rally his troop as they fought, yard by yard. They pushed the enemy back. Our soldiers retook their camp.
President Obama also recognized Carter’s courage off the battlefield in speaking openly and honestly about his struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress. “At first, like a lot of troops, Ty resisted seeking help,” President Obama said. But with the support of the Army, his commanders, and his family, he reached out. Now he wants to help other soldiers with their own recovery
