(Chd,Hary)Khattar Accused Pb Counterpart of Misleading on SYL
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar accused Punjab of “misleading” on the Sutlej-Yamuna link canal despite the apex court ruling in their favour.
He said this during a review meeting on the canal issue.
The chief minister was informed that chief secretaries of both states would be meeting the central water secretary in New Delhi on December 6 over the issue.
Khattar also slammed the neighbouring state on stubble burning.
“Punjab is misleading the country by targeting Haryana on the issue of stubble burning and holding the state responsible for increasing pollution,” he said.
In September 2019, the Supreme Court had given four months to Punjab, Haryana and the Centre to find an amicable solution to the SYL canal issue.
Haryana has been seeking the completion of the canal to get its share of 3.5 million acre feet of river waters.

Farmers in Pb & Hary Continue to Defy Ban on Stubble Burning

[Chandigarh] Farmers in Pb & Hary Defy Ban on Stubble Burning
Stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana is a major cause of air pollution not only in the two states but also in the national capital.Punjab has so far seen over 330 incidents of crop residue burning while Haryana has witnessed 701 incidents of stubble burning
Paddy growers claim, they are “compelled” to do so in the absence of any financial support from the government for farm waste management.
The situation is likely to aggravate this year as the window period for managing the paddy crop residue has got shortened by at least 10 days because of rains last month that delayed paddy harvesting and some farmers said they will resort to stubble burning over taking the farm mechanization route.

[Chandigarh,Pb]Pb Govt Inks MoU with IOC for Setting up Bio-Gas & Bio-CNG Plants
This Rs 5000 crore project will check stubble burning And provide jobs to 4000 people
The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd for setting up of bio-gas and bio-CNG plants in the state,
The project will be initiated with 42 plants becoming operational in 2018, probably before the paddy season. It will be scaled up to 400 plants over the next 3-4 years, making it the one of the biggest such projects in the country.
According to IOC officials, the technology requires no or negligible energy input and nutrient requirements. It requires a smaller footprint area compared to composting and the entire process takes places in a closed vessel system, thus causing no greenhouse emissions and no problem of odor and birds/rodents.
