Royal Nepal Airlines+Air India Flights Grounded At IGIA:Bomb Threat

[New Delhi]Royal Nepal Airlines+Air India Flights Grounded At IGIA For 2nd Round Security Check: Bomb Threat Call
Two flights bound for Nepal and Bhubaneswar were today grounded just before taking off after security agencies were alerted of a bomb threat call on the two airliners at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA)
Passengers on board the two aircraft– Royal Nepal Airlines (Delhi-Kathmandu) and Air India (Delhi-Bhubaneswar– were evacuated and taken to the isolation bay where security agencies carried out anti-sabotage checks after a threat call was received by the airport control room at about 10 AM.
While the Kathmandu flight (RA-206) had 155 passengers and nine crew members, the flight bound for Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar (AI-075) had 178 fliers and seven crew members.
Passengers of both the flights and their baggage were subjected to a second round of checking with the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) at the IGIA monitoring the situation.
Security personnel from the CISF and Delhi Police cordoned off the two planes along with bomb disposal squads,
They added the threat was triggered after the airport control room received a call from a person identifying himself as Abhishek Singh, a “CBI officer” and said that while there is a “time bomb” in the Nepal bound flight, some “movement” has happened at the terminal area to hit the AI flight.
Officials said the agencies are trying to track the number and location from where the call was made to the airport call centre.
Preliminary reports said four Members of Parliament were to travel on the AI flight.
Talking about the menace of hoax calls, Central Industrial Security Force chief Surender Singh had said while 44 such calls were received last year at various airports the force is deployed, 16 such calls have been made till early March this year.

[New Delhi]Govt Can’t Push Pvt ALs & Unwilling To Force Its Carrier For Unconnected Cities
Government today said that Its Carrier is coming out from losses so, will not “force” Air India to fly to unconnected cities
Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju said Air India is coming out of losses because of the government’s “non-interference” policy and maintained that its job was to “facilitate and not compel” airline operations.
Raju made the remarks during Question Hour after a number of members raised the issue of lack of air connectivity to the regions they came from and Rajiv Satav (Cong) urged him to ask Air India to connect places like Nanded, a pilgrimage centre of the Sikhs.
Raju, however, said the government from time to time gave suggestions to airlines and noted that in the draft civil aviation policy there is a proposal to connect unserved and unconnected airports under the Regional Connectivity Scheme.
“The details of the scheme including the action plan are being finalised… An indicative cost of Rs 50-100 crore has been envisaged in the budget speech for 2016-1017,”
He said in a written reply.”The commencement of activity in these unconnected, unserved airports and airstrips depends on the willingness of the airlines and of the state governments to agree to the conditions of the scheme,”

MHA Detects Security Risks In National Carrier,So Red Flags Air India’s Hub Policy

[New Delhi]MHA Detects Security Risks In National Carrier,So Red Flags Air India’s Hub & Spoke Policy
The Home Ministry has red flagged the national carrier’s ambitious plan that connects several tier-II cities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi, with international destinations.
Several security lapses have been detected in the Air India’s Hub and Spoke operations, which connect Amritsar, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Panaji, Bhubaneswar and Varanasi with metro cities before flying the passengers to foreign destinations
Under the facility, international passengers are required to clear immigration and security at the boarding airport but no check is done at the last port of exit. However, since such flights also carry domestic passengers, who get off at places like Delhi and Mumbai, there is a risk that someone, whom police is looking for, can leave the country by exchanging boarding passes with an accomplice who may have a boarding pass for the international leg of the trip.
.The Home Ministry wants a security and immigration check at Delhi and Mumbai hubs or any of the last port of departure.
Incidents of passengers exiting without immigration check at spoke international airports like Ahmedabad, Panaji and Amritsar have happened.
As per the Hub and Spoke policy, metros like Delhi and Mumbai are used as hubs. The spoke-hub distribution paradigm (or model or network) is a system of connections arranged like a wire wheel, in which all traffic moves along spokes (smaller cities) connected to the hub at the centre
