President of India conferred National Awards For Sports:Arjuna Award For Renjith Maheshwari withheld

President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee here today conferred the[1] Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award,[2] Dronacharya Awards,[3] Arjuna Awards, [4]Dhyan Chand Awards, [5]Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards,[6] Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy and [7]Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar at a specially organised function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi, Withholding Arjuna Award in respect of Renjith Maheshwari . Renjith Maheshwari, who was selected for Arjuna Award 2013, had tested[ conflicting reports ] positive for banned stimulant, ephedrine during the 48th Open National Athletics Meet held at Kochi and that the Athletics Federation of India had suspended Shri Maheshwari for three months. Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports decides to withhold this award till completion of enquiries.

Recipients of Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar were given Trophies
.National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports. Apart from a medal and a citation, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee received a cash prize of Rs.7.5 lakh. Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand Awardees received statuettes, citations and cash prize of Rs.5 lakh each.
Ms. P.V. Sindhu, Badminton a winner of Arjuna Award 2013 was not present at the award ceremony.

Sports Minister ,taking serious view on the sports scam , today ordered a inquiry:Age Issue of Athletes

[New Delhi] Sports Minister ,today,taking serious view on the sports scam ordered a inquiry.
Taking a stern view on the issue of 17 Indian athletes being disqualified from Nanjing Youth Asian Games, ordered an inquiry to fix responsibility on the officials for the Scam which had brought embarrassment to the country.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) Director General Jiji Thomson has been asked to probe the case and submit a report to the Sports Ministry.Union Sports Minister Orders Inquiry into Athletes over Age Issue.
The Young Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Jitendra Singh has observed with considerable disquiet, the media reports that 17 Indian track and field athletes were not allowed to participate in the ongoing Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China for being above the stipulated age of 17 years.
The 17 athletes were part of of a 27 member delegation selected by the Athletics Federation of India. The Minister has also taken note of similar media reports that 4 Indian badminton players will also be returning back as their names were not included in the entry list at the games.
