Central Sports Minister Jitendra Singh Inaugurated Following Three New Sport Projects
[1] National Cycling Academy
[2]Swimming Pools
[3] Community Connect Scheme
The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Sports Authority of India National Cycling Academy (SAI NCA). The academy with complete back-up facilities has been set up following the decision taken in the 42nd meeting of the Governing Body of SAI. The academy will be financed by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports through Sports Authority of India with a long-term perspective of making it a top notch Academy which is financially independent and a self-sustaining venture. Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister Shri Jitendra Singh said, the Academy shall cater to the identification and nurturing of young talent at both sub-junior and junior levels and the training of elite athletes on a run up to their preparations for international/national competitions.
He said, the Academy which is being housed in world-class infrastructure is supported by a proper gymnasium and the latest technical support like a fully-equipped workshop for cycles. He said, the coaches shall be recruited from both India and abroad for the said Academy.
Since Cycling Federation of India, an affiliate of the International Cycling Federation, is a major stakeholder in the Cycling discipline, necessary arrangements by way of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) seeking their support and giving them conducive environment shall be entered into.
In the second phase, after the initial setting up and stabilizing of the Academy is achieved, SAI shall also approach the World Cycling Centre of UCI at Aigle (Switzerland) to make their coaches available from time to time to guide in the training techniques and finally convert the academy into a satellite centre of the UCI World Cycling Centre.
India recently had success in Asian Track Cycling Championship held at Bangkok (Thailand) in 2013, getting first-ever Gold medal in the history of Cycling
[b]The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Jitendra Singh here today launched the project to create Swimming Pools one each at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS), Indira Gandhi Sports Complex (IGSC) and Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range (Dr. KSSR). The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 907.50 lakhs.
Creation of Indoor Learner’s pool at Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex and Kiddies pool at MDCNS were already approved in 41st meeting of SAI Governing Body on 24.09.2013.
New Swimming Pools are being created at JNS, IGSC and Dr. KSSR. The estimated cost per swimming pool is Rs. 302.50 lakhs. The total estimated cost for three swimming pools will be Rs. 907.50 lakhs
[bMinister Launched the Community Connect Scheme at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex and the Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex. The Community Connect Scheme has been launched with the objective of making various Sports Authority of India (SAI) Stadia multidisciplinary to include sports as well as recreational facilities, so that the local communities can utilize them for recreation as well as overall health and fitness.
SAI has been utilizing the stadia for hosting District, State, National and International Sports events. It is also implementing the ‘Come & Play Scheme’ encouraging the youth to utilize the stadia facilities to hone their skills in the Sports disciplines of their choice. This highly subsidised endeavour provides world class facilities along with training under the tutelage of qualified Coaches.
To further exploit the underutilized spaces available in stadia, the Community Connect Scheme visualizes increased participation of the community thereby increasing the footfalls in the stadia to make it a hub of sports and fitness activities.
In addition to the existing sports facilities available, facilities like Walking/Jogging Track, Cycling Track, Volleyball Courts, Cricket Nets, Billiards & Snooker, Fitness Centres, Aerobics, Yoga, Skating, Swimming Pools, Squash Courts, Chess Rooms, Bridge Rooms, Carrom etc. are being launched. There will be multiple choices of both indoor and outdoor recreational and sports facilities on offer.

Special Sanction Of Rs 10,52,000.00 For Winter Olympics Games from National Sports Development Fund

Sports Ministry Sanctions Rs 10,52,000.00 For Winter Olympics Games from National Sports Development Fund
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have sanctioned a grant of Rs 10,52,000.00 (Rupees Ten Lacs fifty two thousand only) from the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) for purchase of sports equipments, Ski, Ski Boots and other essential items for the participants of Winter Olympics Games 2014 at Sochi (Russia) in the disciplines of Alpine Skiing and Cross- Country Skiing.
This was decided at a meeting of the Executive Committee of NSDF held in New Delhi last week. Although such assistance is not normally given from NSDF, the Executive Committee decided to extend the assistance as a special case in view of the importance of the event.
Three sports persons namely [1]S/Shri Shiva Keshavan (Luge),
[2]Himanshu Thakur (Alpine Skiing) and
[3] Nadeem Iqbal (Alpine Skiing) from India have qualified for participation in Sochi Winter Olympics commencing from 7th February 2014.
The grant from NSDF is in addition to the assistance for sports kit, air fare, accommodation etc. already sanctioned for the participants of the Winter Olympics Games.
It may be recalled that in a meeting chaired by the Minister of State ( Independent Charge), Shri Jitendra Singh on 15th January, 2014 it was decided to provide assistance for participation of Indian sports persons in the Winter Olympics.
Earlier Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has also sanctioned financial assistance of about Rs 34.00 Lacs to Shri Shiva Keshavan for training for preparation of Winter Olympics.

[New Delhi] Sports Minister ,today,taking serious view on the sports scam ordered a inquiry.
Taking a stern view on the issue of 17 Indian athletes being disqualified from Nanjing Youth Asian Games, ordered an inquiry to fix responsibility on the officials for the Scam which had brought embarrassment to the country.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) Director General Jiji Thomson has been asked to probe the case and submit a report to the Sports Ministry.Union Sports Minister Orders Inquiry into Athletes over Age Issue.
The Young Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Jitendra Singh has observed with considerable disquiet, the media reports that 17 Indian track and field athletes were not allowed to participate in the ongoing Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China for being above the stipulated age of 17 years.
The 17 athletes were part of of a 27 member delegation selected by the Athletics Federation of India. The Minister has also taken note of similar media reports that 4 Indian badminton players will also be returning back as their names were not included in the entry list at the games.
