[New Delhi]CBI Arrests Income Tax Officer With a CA For Receiving Bribe Of Rs 3.5 Lakhs For Lowering Tax Demand
CBI today arrested an Income Tax officer and a chartered accountant for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh for lowering the tax demand raised against a businessman.
ITO Prem Chand Meena + Chartered Accountant Deepak Agrawal were caught “red handed” while taking bribe.
As per sources a businessman had approached CBI with a complaint that Meena, through Agrawal, had allegedly raised a demand of over Rs 20 lakh during the scrutiny of his assessment and was ready to bring it down if a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh was paid to him.
Following the complaint, a trap was laid and the CA arrested while accepting the bribe on behalf of the officer.
When questioned, the chartered accountant said the actual beneficiary of graft was someone else.
Agrawal then took them to ITO and proceeded to the chamber of Meena, who too was arrested while accepting the money from the CA.
The sources said during the search of Meena’s office another Rs three lakh was recovered.
