Punjab government is mulling the creation of district cadres for teachers to ensure that they remain posted in the same area, thus leading to social pressures on them to perform.
This was stated by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh during discussions with researchers and professors of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID) on a range of issues, including education & skill development, raising farm incomes and crop diversification.
Expressing concern over the challenges in education in the state, especially in rural areas, the Chief Minister underlined the need to take up its upgradation on top priority.

This was disclosed today by the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu on the occasion of the inking of an MoU between the Punjab Government and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).
The MoU was inked by the Principal Secretary Local Government Department, Punjab, . A. Venu Prasad and Scientist & Head NEERI Dr. S.K. Goyal.
As per Sidhu Nallahs in Punjab had become the dumping grounds for the Industrial waste, building material and dead animals, completing making the place an eyesore and toxic.
This needed to stop and solution was needed which has been found now.
Minister further said that this project to clean the ‘Nallahs’ will be launched in a phased manner from March this year in the cities of Punjab including
Amritsar,
Jalandhar,
Patiala and
Budha Nallah of Ludhiana.
The Minister also examined a detailed presentation by the NEERI team.
The Minister expressed strong hope that things would change for the better in around two years after the formalities are completed.

The Punjab Government has exempted weaker section from paying any tax on the houses that they would be provided.
The Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu today took the landmark decision to that effect.
Under the scheme, “House For All “4.73 lakh people have applied for the houses till now.
The minister disclosed that all the homeless families belonging to the SC/BC category would be provided the houses free of cost. Apart from this, those families living in the slums on the Government land would also be given houses free. Those urbanites of general category that belong to the low income group would be given financial assistance worth Rs. 1.50 lakh for constructing houses under the target of providing houses on affordable rates.
Mr. Sidhu also added that the department has so far sent demand of Rs. 38 crores for 56 cities/towns concerning this initiative.

State Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption today nabbed a Computer Operator of Sewa Kendra red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 4,K.
Computer operator Harkinder Singh posted at Sewa Kendra village Harnampura in Ludhiana district was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Supinder Kaur of village Natt, PS Dehlon, district Ludhiana.
The Complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused computer operator has demanded Rs. 6500 for issuing the date of birth certificates of her three children and the deal was struck at Rs. 4000.

Justice (retd) Mehtab Singh Gill Commission was set up to look into “false cases” registered during the decade-long SAD-BJP rule in Punjab,
In its fifth interim report submitted to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today, the inquiry panel recommended action, mainly cancellation of FIRs, in 41 cases, taking the total number of such cases so far to 258.
Out of 159 complaints, 118 have been set aside for lack of jurisdiction or for being without merit.
“Among the cases in which cancellation has been recommended in this report are FIRs against
Vijay Sayal, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Gurdaspur, and
Sikh religious preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal,
both of which the commission described as culmination of vendetta resulting from their refusal to obey the diktats of former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and former revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia,”
Sanyal was falsely implicated in an FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, Faridkot, for challaning the Orbit Bus of Sukhbir, who also held the portfolio of home department,

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today ordered the setting up of special multi-department joint teams in all the districts of the state.
These teams, will be headed by the respective deputy commissioners,
The chief minister warned that no political interference would be tolerated in the matter and instructed officials to initiate the crackdown on priority, without delay.
The mines to be auctioned on February 19 include 48 sand mines (1.64 crore tonnes) and three gravel (0.2 crore tonnes), while the March 15 auctions will have 145 mines (2.7 crore tonnes) of sand and 18 mines (0.2 crore tonnes) of gravel being open to bidding.
Also, the department officials informed about as many as 34 of the mines auctioned so far, which they said was not yet operational.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has approved a ban on sale of 20 harmful insecticides
Ths bann was recommended by Registration Committee, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and the Punjab State Farmers’ Commission (PSFC),
Chief Minister directed that the ban be implemented meticulously and stringently.
The Director Agriculture has also been asked to review all the licenses given for these insecticides and, further, not to issue any fresh license for these insecticides ‪from February 1, 2018.
These 20 insecticides whose sale has been discontinued are:
Phosphamidon,
Tricholorofon,
Benfuracarb,
Dicofol,
Methomyl,
Thiophanate Methyl,
Endosulfan,
Bifenthrin,
Carbosulfan,
Chlorfenapyr,
Dazomet,
Diflubenzuron,
Fenitrothion,
Metaldehyde,
Kasugamycin,
Ethofenprox (Etofenprox),
Phorate,
Triazophos,
Alachior and
Monocrotophos.

Navjot Singh Sidhu inaugurated Interpretation Centre at Keshopur Chhamb and said that Punjab Is Heaven For Migratory Birds .
In a first for the State of Punjab, the festival of ‘Migratory Birds’ was celebrated at Keshopur Chhamb today. Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu said that Punjab is the favourite spot of the migratory birds which is amply proved by the converging of 25000-30000 migratory birds at Keshopur Chhamb and more than 70000 at Harike Pattan. He further said that there are many wetlands around the world which receive less migratory birds than Punjab but have been popularized as centres of tourist excellence. The minister emphasized tapping of the immense tourism potential of the State by the department.
He announced that World [wildlife]Photography Contest to be held at wetlands next year
Minister Sidhu said that Tented accomodation to be made available for bird lover tourists
He announced Rs. 3 crore for approach road to Keshopur Chhamb
The minister also inaugurated the interpretation centre for the tourists at Keshopur Chhamb constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 crore.
The minister said that Punjab is the second state after Manipur to implement Cultural Policy and now efforts are on in full swing to frame a Tourism Policy Batting for connecting the future generations with the rich cultural heritage of Punjab, Mr. Sidhu also championed the cause of generating job avenues from the ‘Sabhyachar Ton Rozgar’ policy.
Sidhu while thanking the farmers who gave 850 acres of land for Keshopur Chhamb said that no stone would be left unturned to transform Gurdaspur as the tourism hub and also that Chhamb would be developed with the participation of all stakeholders.
The minister also handed over the keys of the complex at Keshopur Chhamb to the Forest & Wildlife authorities besides releasing the books published by the Tourism Department for promoting tourism.
Earlier, the minister also toured Keshopur Chhamb and watched the migratory birds and visited the exhibition of domestic goods manufactured by a self help group. He also praised the artistic acumen of the artisans and visited the whole complex.

3 Member Committee Constituted to Restructure Polytechnic Colleges

The performance of the entire staff of the polytechnic colleges would be monitored regularly to improve the standard of technical education in the government Polytechnic colleges of the state.
As per Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Charanjit Singh Channi , one member each from
Maharaja Ranjit Singh University Bathinda,
PTU Jalandhar and
technical education board
would be part of this committee.
The Technical Education Minister has issued clear cut instructions that only the courses which are suitable for employment as per needs of the present and future would be run in the government institutes. He also informed that outdated courses would be closed.
The Technical Education Minister took another important decision to change the non performing principals of the Polytechnic
Channi said that the deployment staff in the technical education department would be restructured and rationalized.
