Sh Modi happens to be the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to visit the plant, one of the five integrated plants of public sector steel giant SAIL.
Prime Minister Modi also saw the functioning of the new plate mill that has been installed as part of the Rs 12,000 crore modernisation and expansion programme.
The P M Shri Modi, today called upon states to work together with the Centre, with a long-term vision, to develop the country, and pave the way for the prosperity of future generations. He was addressing a large public meeting at Rourkela, after dedicating to the nation, the 4.5 MT expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant.
He said he has come to Rourkela today to deliver ‘vikas’ (development). He described Rourkela as the town which has given India the strength of steel. He said Rourkela Steel Plant plays a key role in the nation’s defence as well. The Prime Minister said India had surpassed America in steel production, but was still far behind China, and therefore, a lot more still needed to be done. He said value addition was necessary in India’s mineral wealth, in order to build a strong economy.
The Prime Minister said the world was looking at India again with optimism. He invited investors from across the world to invest in India. He emphasized in particular, the need to develop the eastern part of India, including the states of Assam+West Bengal+Odisha, +Bihar+ Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The Prime Minister said the Centre and States were equal stakeholders in the Nation’s development. He highlighted steps taken by the Centre to strengthen states, including enhancing mineral royalty and greater devolution of financial resources to states. He said it was now upto the states to work with a long-term vision for development. The Prime Minister described the process of auctioning of coal blocks, and said the revenues from this would contribute greatly to the development of states.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the Visionary and Founding Leaders of New Odisha, on the occasion of Utkal Diwas. The Prime Minister presented the Trophy for Excellence in Performance of Integrated Steel Plants to Tata Steel Ltd (TISCO), Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL, and JSW Steel Ltd, for the years 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 respectively.

Central Ministry of Steel Starts Construction Of 2500 Toilet Blocks For Completion By FYE

[New Delhi]Central Ministry of Steel starts construction Of 2500 toilet blocks For Completion Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan By End Of The Current Financial Year
A review meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Minister of Steel and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar, with Heads of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel and Ministry of Mines, at New Delhi on 19.11.2014, regarding construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Shri Tomar advised the CPSEs to ensure that the identification & blocking of schools and placement of work orders must be completed by December’2014 and the construction of schools should be completed by March 2015. Quality of construction must be of high standards and long-lasting, as it has a bearing on the reputation of the organization and the Ministry, he added.
It is noteworthy that CPSEs under Ministry of Steel had earlier decided to construct 3500 toilet blocks at an aggregate cost of Rs. 100 crore. Out of these, around 2400 toilet blocks have been identified and blocked by the CPSEs on the website of Ministry of HRD, and the remaining are being identified.
Similarly CPSEs under the Ministry of Mines had allocated Rs. 7.5 crore approximately, for construction of toilet blocks. Out of planned 334 schools for toilet blocks, 135 schools have been identified and blocked on the website of Ministry of HRD, and the remaining are being identified. Construction of toilets in respect of both the Ministries is in preliminary stage and is expected to gain momentum by the year-end.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Ministry of Steel, Shri Rakesh Singh, the Secretary Ministry of Mines, Dr. Anup K. Pujari along with other senior officers of both the Ministries. CMDs of all CPSEs viz, SAIL, RINL, MOIL, NALCO, MECL, HCL, MSTC, KIOCL, HSCL, MECON were present.
