Senior SAD leader and Union Minister Smt Harsimrat Kaur Badal has urged the prime minister (PM) to waive GST on ingredients used to make ‘langars’ in Gurdwaras.
Union Food Processing Industries Minister & Bathinda MP mentioned in her letter that Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Amritsar, runs the world’s largest mega kitchen, offering free meals throughout the year to lakhs of people, the donation for which comes from the humble offerings of devotees.
Earlier, the minister had also written to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on this issue.
In March, the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab had decided to waive its 50% share of the GST imposed on purchases made for ‘langar’ (community kitchen) at the Golden Temple.
As the Punjab government decided to waive its share, Manpreet had asked the SAD whether it would press the Narendra Modi government at the Centre to waive the central government’s share as well.

Union Railways Department, has decided to grant 50% concession to pilgrims attending birthday celebrations of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji at Varanasi.
This decision was taken by the Railways Department after personal correspondence and a series of meetings by the Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal with the Union Railway Minister.
While thanking the Union Railway Minister, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that this decision would benefit a large number of Punjabis From Ambala+Jalandhar+Bathinda +Pune who would be attending the birthday celebrations of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji at Varanasi.

[Ludhiana,Punjab]”AAP”Slapped Another Defamation Case:Majithia Files defamation case against Sanjay Singh
Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today filed a case of criminal defamation against AAP leader and incharge of the party’s Punjab affairs Sanjay Singh in a court for alleging that he had patronised the drug mafia.
The case was filed in the court of Judicial Magistrate Bikramdeep Singh under section 499/500 (defamation) of IPC.
In his complaint, Majithia, who is also the grandson of a former Union minister Surjit Singh Majithia and elder brother of Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, rejected the allegation levelled against him by AAP leader Sanjay Singh of having patronised the drug mafia, saying it was baseless.
He said that the allegation has damaged his reputation.
The court has fixed January 15 for hearing in the case.
Later, Majithia told reporters in the court complex that AAP leaders have the habit of making false allegations against the others just to play to the galleries and obtain cheap publicity.
