[Chd,Pb]Over 1.5 Lakh Punjabis Pressed “NOTA”
1,54,423 voters (1.12 per cent of total votes polled) pressed the NOTA option,
Among 13 Lok Sabha seats, it was Faridkot constituency where maximum number of voters rejected the candidates. A total of 19,246 voters in Faridkot went for NOTA, as per EC data available.
In Anandpur Sahib, 17,135 voters opted for NOTA option, while in Ferozepur the figure was 14,891.
On almost all the constituencies in Punjab, NOTA occupied the fifth spot, as per data available.
A total of 13,323 voters opted for NOTA in Bathinda,
followed by 13,045 in Fatehgarh Sahib,
12,868 in Hoshiarpur,
12,324 in Jalandhar,
11,110 in Patiala,
10,538 in Ludhiana,
9,560 in Gurdaspur,
8,763 in Amritsar,
6,490 in Sangrur and
5,130 in Khadoor Sahib.
Interestingly, the percentage of NOTA votes was more than the vote percentage of some political parties like CPI and CPM in the state, the EC said.

मालूम हो के उच्चतम न्यायालय के 27 सितम्बर, 2013 के आदेश का अनुसरण करते हुए 11 अक्तूबर, 2013 से इलेक्ट्रानिक वोटिंग मशीनों पर दिखाए गए बैलेट पेपरों में तथा अन्य बैलेट पेपरों में नोटा- उपरोक्त में से कोई नहीं- विकल्प को लागू किया था।
भारत निर्वाचन आयोग ने अब अन्य चुनाव चिन्हों की तरह नोटा विकल्प के लिए विशेष चिह्न x लागू किया है। इसका उद्देश्य मतदाताओं द्वारा नोटा विकल्प चुनने में मदद देना है। अब से आगे होने वाले सभी चुनावों में ईवीएम के अंतिम पैनल तथा अन्य बैलेट पेपरों पर नोटा विकल्प के समक्ष यह विशेष चिह्न दिखेगा। इस संबंध में सभी मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारियों को आवश्यक निर्देश जारी किए गये हैं।
नोटा विकल्प का मुख्य उद्देश्य ऐसे मतदाताओं की सहायता करना है जो किसी भी उम्मीदवार को वोट देना नहीं चाहते और ऐसे मतदाताओं को अपने निर्णय की गोपनीयता का उल्लंघन किए बिना किसी भी उम्मीदवार को वोट न देने के अधिकार के उपयोग में सहायता देना है।
नोटा विकल्प चिह्न को भारतीय डिजाइन संस्थान (एनआईडी) अहमदाबाद ने डिजाइन किया है।

AIADMK Supremo and TN Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today recorded an impressive victory in the R K Nagar by-election with a margin of 1,50,722 votes, trouncing her nearest CPI rival C Mahendran who forfeited his deposit like other contestants.
Expressing joy and thanking the electorate for giving her a huge victory, Jayalalithaa said, “It is a historic win, I assure that I will tirelessly work to fulfil the voters’ expectations, and needs.”
Out of the total votes polled in the city constituency, a massive 88.43 % of the electorate had voted “for me which is historic,” she said.
The AIADMK chief had an unassailable lead of several thousand votes right from the start when counting began at 8 AM.
At the end of the 17th round,
she secured 1,60,432 votes and
Mahendran 9,710 votes out of the total 1,81,420 votes.
Of these, 2376 were ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) votes
Maverick social activist ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy managed to get 4,590 votes.
The by-election was necessitated following AIADMK’s P Vetrivel vacating the seat in May, apparently to enable Jayalalithaa seek re-election.
