Celluloid Personalities to Cross Magnetization in Kerala Polls ?

[Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala] Celluloid Personalities to Cross Magnetization in Kerala Polls ?
Film stars and directors will be crossing swords in the May 16 Assembly polls in Kerala with political parties fielding at least six persons from the industry, aiming to cash in on their popularity.
All three major parties in the polls –
Congress,
CPI(M) and
BJP –
have roped in a handful of matinee idols to woo voters.
The politically-conscious voters of Kerala normally keep celebrities at bay. However, the victory of Actor Innocent in the last Lok Sabha polls seems to have heralded a new trend.
Besides four actors, including popular stars like
Mukesh and
Jagadish, who have been in the industry for over three decades, two directors will also try their luck in the electoral politics this time.
While CPI(M) will support actor-turned-politician and Kerala Congress (B) leader K B Ganesh Kumar, who snapped ties with ruling UDF, in Pathanapuram, Congress has roped in noted character-artist and comedian Jagadish to take on him in the constituency.
As BJP has fielded actor Bheeman Reghu against them, Pathanapuram is expected to witness a triangular ‘star war’.
Ganesh, who had to quit the UDF Ministry after his estranged wife filed a domestic violence complaint against him, recently courted controversy by levelling personal allegations against Jagadish.
Another star contestant, Mukesh, a permanent presence in slapstick movies and known for the films like ‘Ramjirao Speaking’, ‘In Harihar Nagar’ and ‘Godfather’, will be contesting Kollam on a CPI(M) ticket.
Son of veteran thespian O Madhavan, who established renowned drama company Kalidasa Kala Kendra, Mukesh has been a known sympathiser of the Left ideology.
CPI(M) chose him in the key constituency with the belief that Mukesh’s multi-faceted personality as a writer, TV host and producer, besides actor, could easily strike a chord with the people.

CPI[M] Attacks Its Delhiite Mitra Cong For Helping Keralite Corporates

[Kannur,Kerala])CPI[M] Attacks Its Delhi Mitra Cong For Helping Keralite Corporates
Attacking the ruling Congress led UDF government, CPI(M) today alleged that it was helping corporates by doling out government land in the name of development.
“Distributing government land to private persons is the development which Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is claiming,” CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters
The government is openly challenging the land reforms act through its four recent orders which were later cancelled or modified following pressure from KPCC president V M Sudheeran and the opposition,
The Chandy government had yesterday cancelled a decision to hand over about 127 acres of “surplus” land spread over Ernakulam and Thrissur districts by according concession under Land Ceiling Act to a private company allegedly having links with controversial godman Santhosh Madhavan.
The government has been forced to backtrack on granting permission to an eco-tourism project in 420 acres at ‘Methran Kayal backwater’ paddy fields at Kumarakom village in Kottayam district and for a super speciality medi city project in 47 acres of paddy land at Kadamakuddy in Kochi.
Similarly, it had come under attack for issuing orders to accept basic land tax for about 800 acres of a private estate owner at Nelliampathy in Palakkad.
Corporates are “controlling” the government, Kodiyeri, whose party heads the LDF opposition in Kerala, alleged.
He said that despite protests by officials, the government had given land to corporates and corruption of crores of rupees had taken place at a time when there were several landless people in the state.
The Left leader said if LDF is voted to power in the May 16 Assembly polls, it would re-visit the various orders of the last days of the UDF government.

Law Makers,Today,Showed Muscles To Tame “Jallikattu”In TN Assembly

[Chennai,TN] Law Makers,Today, Showed Muscles To Tame “Jallikattu” In TN Assembly
The Bull Fight “jallikattu” issue today echoed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly with opposition parties demanding a resolution on the matter even as the government slammed DMK and Congress over the ban imposed by the UPA dispensation against the bull-taming sport in 2011.
Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, also Leader of the House, said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was ‘determined’ to take legal steps to hold jallikattu in the state.
Soon after the Question Hour ended, opposition DMK sought to raise the issue but Speaker P Dhanapal denied permission saying the party could speak on the matter while participating in the debate to thank the Governor for his address to the House.
DMK, led by its Floor Leader M K Stalin, persisted for sometime before staging a walk-out.
CPI(M) and CPI demanded that the government move a resolution in the Assembly urging the Centre to enable conduct of jallikattu even as the Supreme Court had earlier this month stayed a central notification allowing the bull-taming sport to be held coinciding with the Tamil harvest festival of Pongal.
MMK, Congress and PMK also batted for jallikattu, but the national party and DMK came under government criticism.
The government of Congress-led UPA, in which DMK was a constituent, had banned jallikattu in 2011, drawing the ire of state political parties and the sport enthusiasts.
The BJP-led NDA government had earlier this month issued a notification allowing jallikattu, besides some other sports involving the animal in certain other states, which was subsequently stayed by the Supreme Court.
Protests had rocked Madurai and other southern parts, the hotbed of jallikattu activities, last week seeking that efforts be taken for conducting the sport this year.
