Earlier, the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages all gurdwaras, and Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has also urged the Centre to exempt the free kitchens at the Golden Temple and other Sikh shrines from the purview of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“This is for the first time in the 450 year history of the Gurudwaras that GST was being levied on ‘langar’ service,” LGPC President Rajendra Singh Bagga said while addressing a press conference here.
Former Uttar Pradesh minister and MLC Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, who was also present in the conference, said the Sikh society was highly agitated over the decision to impose GST on ‘langar’.
He claimed that till December 31, 2017, the Centre had collected Rs 2 crore from the Gurudwaras.
Importantly, the GST is not served on food served in langars itself, but is charged on the purchase of raw materials used to prepare the food.

किरपाल सिंह बादुंगर को आज शिरोमणि गुरूद्वारा प्रबंधक कमेटी का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया ।वह इससे पहले 2001 में भी एसजीपीसी के अध्यक्ष थे।
वह अवतार सिंह मक्कड़ का स्थान लेंगे, श्री मक्कड़ का कार्यकाल आज खत्म हो रहा है।
एसजीपीसी की महासभा में बादुंगर का नाम पंजाब के कैबिनेट मंत्री तोता सिंह ने प्रस्तावित किया और एसजीपीसी की पूर्व अध्यक्ष बीबी जागीर कौर ने उनके नाम का समर्थन किया।
महासभा में
हरियाणा के बलदेव सिंह कियामपुरी को उपाध्यक्ष,
बाबा बूटा सिंह को कनिष्ठ उपाध्यक्ष और
अमरजीत सिंह चावला को महासचिव चुना गया।
तेजा सिंह समुंद्री हॉल में ‘बोले-सो-निहाल सतश्री अकाल’ के उद्घोष के बीच निकाय के पदाधिकारियों का चुनाव हुआ।

Devotees visiting Punjab’s Golden Temple will now have free Wi-Fi internet access within the temple complex and its peripheral area.
Additional Secretary of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Daljit Singh Bedi said The service would not be available inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and the marbled area around the water pond, keeping religious ethics in view,
The facility would be available in all nearby routes around the periphery of Golden Temple, besides all the guest-houses run by SGPC for pilgrims in the temple complex.
wi-fi would also be functional in all the offices of SGPC and related offices of Golden Temple, besides Akal Takht.
Bedi said the free wi-fi facility will be provided by Videocon.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said 200 skill development centers would be opened across the state to make the youth as employment generators not the job seekers.
Elaborating the plans of Punjab government to ensure all round development of the state, he said the government would open 2 skill development centers in every block of border districts, where the youth would be imparted free training in various streams to increase their avenues for self-employment.
The youth would contribute to the state’s development as also to their own family by being self employed with increase in resources, the Dy CM said.
Addressing a gathering at Shaheed Lieutenant Navdeep Singh (Ashoka Chakra) Sports stadium on the eve of inauguration of automated driving test track centre constructed at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore by state transport department, he said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has vision and farsightedness to empower the youth.
He also informed that every center would see the 1,000 youth passing out taking the total number of annual pass outs to more than 1.50 lakh fully skilled and trained youth.
He said that the state government would provide jobs to 1,20,000 youth of the state through a transparent process.
Terming ‘Kohinoor’ diamond an inseparable part of cultural heritage of the state, SAD president said that every effort would be made to bring this precious diamond back to Punjab and the matter would be pursued with the Centre.
He also said SGPC has been asked to file a petition in the Supreme Court in this regard.
Badal said the state government has formulated a policy to give interest free cash crop loans of Rs 50,000 to the farmers.
“Farmers’ tubewell bills have also been waived off for which the state government pays Rs 6,000 crore from its own coffers to the Powercom,” he said.
Launching a scathing attack on Congress, he said the Congress created unnecessary noise on the issue of cash credit limit (CCL) for purchase of foodgrains and misguided the public on this issue but it has been given a befitting reply with the announcing of CCL to Punjab which has amply proved that Congress wanted to delay the loans just to malign SAD-BJP government and score political brownie points.
Attacking Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he said its so called formula of governance, if any, has miserably failed in Delhi and now it has set its eyes on Punjab with next year’s Assembly elections in mind.

केंद्र सरकार ने आज सिख गुरूद्वारा संशोधन विधेयक राज्यसभा में पेश किया |इसमें गुरूद्वारा प्रबंधन बोर्ड एवं समिति के सदस्यों के निर्वाचन में सहजधारी सिखों के वोटिंग राइट्स को समाप्त करने का प्रावधान है।
गृह मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह द्वारा उच्च सदन में पेश किये गये इस विधेयक में सिखों के गुरूद्वारा के प्रबंधन के लिए बने बोर्डो एवं समिति के सदस्यों के निर्वाचन के लिए सहजधारी सिखों को मिले अधिकारों को हटाने का प्रावधान है।पांच ककार धारण किये बगैर सिख धर्म को मानने और केश कटा चुके सिखों को सहजधारी सिख कहते हैं।
विधेयक के कारणों एवं उदृदेश्यों के अनुसार केन्द्र सरकार ने पंजाब पुनर्गठन कानून 1966 के तहत आठ अक्तूबर 2003 को एक अधिसूचना जारी कर सहजधारी सिखों को इन बोर्डो एवं समिति के सदस्यों के निर्वाचन के लिए मिले अधिकारों को हटा दिया था
लेकिन पंजाब एवं हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय ने 20 दिसंबर 2011 के अपने एक आदेश में केन्द्र सरकार की इस अधिसूचना को निरस्त कर दिया था।
मौजूदा विधेयक के तहत सहजधारी सिखों के इस अधिकार को हटाने का प्रावधान है जो आठ अक्तूबर 2003 से प्रभावी होगा।
विधेयक पेश किए जाने के बाद शिरोमणि अकाली दल के नरेश गुजराल ने मांग की कि इस विधेयक पर सदन के सिख एवं अल्पसंख्यक सदस्यों को बोलने का मौका दिया जाए। हालांकि उपसभापति पी जे कुरियन ने कहा कि विधेयक पेश हो जाने के बाद कोई सदस्य उस पर नहीं बोल सकता है। इस विधेयक पर सदस्य अब तभी बोल सकते हैं जब इसे विचार के लिए पेश किया जाए।
कांग्रेस के एम एस गिल ने कहा कि उच्च न्यायालय के निर्णय के कारण गुरूद्वारा प्रबंधन कमेटियों में पुराने कार्यकारिणी के सदस्य काबिज हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि वह कल सेवानिवृत्त होने जा रहे हैं और वह चाहते हैं कि अल्पसंख्यक सिख समुदाय की आवश्यकताओं को देखते हुए इस विधेयक पर सदन में कल ही चर्चा कर इसे पारित किया जाए।
शिअद के सुखदेव सिंह ढींढसा सहित कई अन्य दलों के सदस्यों ने उनकी इस मांग का समर्थन किया कि इस विधेयक को कल ही पारित किया जाना चाहिए

General Is also the Honorary Colonel of this Regiment and his father Risaldar Major Ramphal Singh (Retired) had served with distinction during both the Indo-Pak War of 1965 & 1971.
To commemorate this historic event, the Chief of the Army Staff also released a “Special Day Cover”.
The ceremony was also attended by Lieutenant General KJ Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lieutenant General Praveen Bakshi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command and a number of senior officers and civil dignitaries.
This honour has been bestowed upon the 18 CAVALRY in due recognition of the dedicated service rendered by the Regiment since its raising on 31 Jan 1842.
18 CAVALRY is a front line Regiment of the Indian Armoured Corps which has participated in a large number of operations undertaken by the Army since its raising. In the course of discharging its onerous duties, both in operations and in peace, the hard work done and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of this Regiment have been duly recognised by the 29 battle and theatre honours received by the Regiment, second highest in the Armoured corps.
The Parade was commanded by Colonel Anup Tiwary, Commandant 18 CAVALRY along with other regimental officers, Junior Commission Officers and Other Ranks.

The leaders of some Sikh outfits and hardline groups are taken into preventive custody early today in apprehension of breach of peace after a call that the newly-appointed jathedars would address the community from the Akal Takht.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) President Simranjit Singh Mann and United Akali Dal leader Bhai Mokham Singh, the key organisers of yesterday’s ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ a grand assembly of Sikhs, were taken into preventive custody by the police.
Police said that the security in Amritsar, especially in and around the Golden Temple complex, had been strengthened.
“Mann and Bhai Mokham Singh have been taken into preventive custody,” Amritsar Police Commissioner, J S Aulakh said.
He said that “the situation in Amritsar was “peaceful and under control.”
There were reports that some more Sikh leaders including Amrik Singh Ajnala of Damdami Taksal, who was appointed as Head Priest of Takht Keshgarh Sahib in the over seven-hour long congregation, had been rounded up by the police.
Notably, several Sikh outfits and hardline groups yesterday convened what they called ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ here and appointed Jagtar Singh Hawara, the convict in Beant Singh assassination case, as Jathedar of Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs.
Apart from Akal Takht, the congregation also “removed” jathedars of two other Takhts– Takht Kesgarh Sahib and Takht Damdama Sahib.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, mini-parliament of Sikh religion, appoints all jathedars (Sikh head priests).
The hardliners and some other Sikh groups have been alleging that the ruling Badal family of Punjab controls the SGPC.
The congregation accused the incumbent Sikh head priests, appointed by SGPC, of not keeping up the dignity and traditions of Sikh institutions.
The ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ was organised at Chabba village, about 10 kms from the holy city, to “free” Sikh institutions from political influence.
The gathering was organised to discuss the ouster of Akal Takht head Gurbachan Singh and other Sikh priests involved in “pardoning” of Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for his alleged blasphemy in 2007, which triggered violence in Punjab and Haryana.
However, SGPC and Akal Takht, Sikhism’s highest religious seat, had refused to term it as ‘Sarbat Khalsa’

In an unprecedented development, the Panj Pyaras of the Akal Takht today asked the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to remove the Jathedars of five Takhts , alleging that they had “created furore and restlessness in the community”.However, all the five Jathedars who were asked to appear at Akal today didn’t turn up on the call of Panj Piyaras today.
Satnam Singh, a Panj Pyara, told Media
“We have asked the SGPC to terminate the services of the five Jathedars, including Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh, immediately as the Sikh community has no faith in them due to their recent anti-Panthic acts that created furore and restlessness in the community,”
When asked that the SGPC, the apex religious body of the Sikhs, had already suspended the Panj Pyaras , he said, “The SGPC has suspended their employees and we are here in the capacity of Panj Pyaras, who always remain independent to take any decision in the larger interest of the Sikh community.”
On Wednesday, the Panj Pyaras had summoned the Jathedars of five Takhts to explain the pardon given to Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahi. This had invited their suspension by the SGPC.
The Panj Pyaras said the Jathedars didn’t turn up today in the Golden Temple complex, prompting them to demand their resignation.
