“Indigo”And 2 Other Airlines Penalized For Concerted Action in Fixing ATF (FSC)

[New Delhi] Three Airlines Including Indigo Penalized For Concerted Action in Fixing ATF (FSC) on Cargo Transport
Besides, cease and desist order was also issued against the Airlines.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed penalties upon 3 Airlines for concerted action in fixing and revising Fuel Surcharge (FSC) for transporting cargo.
The final order was passed by CCI on 17.11.2015 in a matter which was filed by Express Industry Council of India against
[1]Jet Airways (India) Ltd.,
[2] InterGlobe Aviation Limited,Managing Indigo Airline
[3] Spice Jet Limited,
Apart from these Airlines ,National Carrier Air India Limited and Go Airlines (India) Limited are also found dealing with anti-competitive agreements.
The Commission noted that the Airlines acted in parallel in collusion in fixing FSC rates. Such conduct was found to have resulted in indirectly determining the rates of air cargo transport and thereby in contravention of the provisions of section 3(1) read with section 3(3)(a) of the Act.
Accordingly, penalties of
Rs. 151.69 crores, On Jet Airways (India) Ltd
Rs. 63.74 crores On InterGlobe Aviation Limited For Indigo
Rs. 42.48 crores On Spice Jet Limited
were imposed for the impugned conduct which was found to be in contravention of the provisions of section 3(1) read with section 3(3)(a) of the Act. Besides, cease and desist order was also issued against the Airlines.
No penalty, however, was imposed upon Air India Limited as its conduct was not found to be parallel with other Airlines. Similarly, no penalty was imposed upon Go Airlines (India) Limited as it gave its cargo belly space to third party vendors with no control on any part of commercial/ economic aspects of cargo operations done by vendors including imposition of FSC.
While imposing penalties, the Commission noted that such conduct in the air cargo industry undermines economic development of the country and ultimately acts to the detriment of end-consumers. However, considering the precarious financial position of Airlines, the penalty was imposed by the Commission @ 1% of their average turnover of the last three financial years.

Domestic Carriers Allowed to Roll out Zero Bag Fares:Modi Govt’s Diwali Gift

[New Delhi] Domestic Carriers Allowed to Roll out Zero Bag Fares :Modi Govt’s Diwali Gift
Modi Govt Bows To Domestic Airlines And Allows them to Roll out Zero Bag Fares
Three domestic carriers — IndiGo+SpiceJet + AirAsia India — had earlier approached the regulator with the “zero bag fare”, offering discount on no check-in luggage.
Aviation regulator DGCA has now allowed domestic carriers to roll out “zero bag” fares and charge penalty against check-in baggage for tickets booked under such an offer.
At present all domestic private airlines except national carrier Air India allow a flyer to carry up to 15 kgs of check-in baggage without any cost.
Air India allows its passengers to carry up to 23 kgs of check-in baggage free of cost.
“Airlines are allowed to offer no check-in baggage/hand baggage only fare scheme subject to the condition that the penalty to be imposed on a passenger, who avails such schemes but turns up with baggage for check-in at airline counter, cannot exceed the amount of incentive offered compared to lowest fare,” Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in its updated Air Transport Circular for unbundling of services.
The circular was issued early this week.
The offer, however, came with a rider that those who book tickets at discounted fares but later decide to carry check-in baggage would have to pay a fee of Rs 500 for up to 10 kg and Rs 750 for up to 15 kg baggage.
In an air transport circular in July, which has now been superseded by the latest circular, the DGCA had said check-in baggage charges (above 15 kgs of free check-in baggage allowance) can be charged separately on opt-in basis as part of the unbundling of services.

SpiceJet,To Compete Indigo+Jet airways, Stretches Wings In Red-Eye Flight Services

[New Delhi]SpiceJet,To Compete Indigo+Jet airways, Stretches Wings In Red-Eye Flight Services
Low Cost Airline SpiceJet today announced the launch of red-eye flight services on its network, which the budget carrier would operate on the Delhi-Bangalore and Delhi- Nanded routes from November 2, making it only the third domestic carrier to offer such flights.
The Gurgaon-based budget carrier also said it plans to add as many as six more similar services on the domestic network as part of its winter schedule.
Only Jet Airways and IndiGo so far offered red-eye flight services in the country.
The airline has offered a starting fare of Rs 3,899 for the Delhi-Bangalore flight.
A red-eye flight departs late at night and arrives early morning. Because of their low fares, these flights are quite popular abroad, especially in the US + Europe.
As per Spicejet Red-eye is a popular concept in the west as they generally tend to be more economical than day-time flights. Moreover, night flights are a smart option for business and other frequent travellers as they can conveniently attend their business meetings and take a late-night flight back, thus avoiding road traffic during peak hours
“We are in a process of adding close to half-a-dozen red- eye flights in the coming winter schedule as they serve our objective of boosting connectivity 24×7,” SpiceJet general manager for corporate affairs, Ajay Jasra, said in the release.
