[New Delhi] NO Reverting Back To Era Of Ballot Paper :CEC
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Thursday asserted that the Election Commission is not going back to ballot papers.
He said ,EVMs are being used as a “football” due to a “motivated slugfest”,
“I would like to make it very, very clear one more time that we are not going back to the era of ballot papers,” Arora said, addressing a gathering ahead of National Voters Day.
He said the poll panel would not take the country back to an era where ballot papers were lifted by musclemen.
“We are open to any criticism and feedback. But we are not going to be bullied. We are going to keep using EVMs,” he said using strong words to defend the machines.
His remarks came days after a self proclaimed cyber expert claimed the machines can be hacked.
Following his claims, several parties Including SP And BSP have demanded the use of ballot papers in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Voting for 56 seats in the second phase of West Bengal Assembly polls began this morning amidst tight security.
Over 1.2 crore electorate will decide the political fates of 383 candidates, including 33 women, in six north Bengal districts of Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda and Birbhum in south Bengal.
In Birbhum district, a total seven constituencies – Dubrajpur, Suri, Nalhati, Rampurhat, Sainthia, Hansan and Murarai have been classified as left-wing extremism affected and polling there will be held from 7 AM to 4 PM.
Elaborate multi-tier security arrangements have been made in these areas,
In the remaining constituencies voting will conclude at 6 PM.
The EC had show caused Trinamool Congress chief and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for violating the model code of conduct by making certain utterances in her poll meetings. She has in turn criticised the poll watchdog.
Another TMC leader Anubrata Mandal, who is the Birbhum district party president, has been kept under 24×7 surveillance by the central police force on the ECs orders after a censure failed to discourage him from violating the model code of conduct.
High-profile electoral battle in this phase would be witnessed at Siliguri where its mayor and former CPI-M minister Ashok Bhattacharya is contesting against former Indian football captain and TMC candidate Bhaichung Bhutia.
State ministers Gautam Deb, Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury and Sabitri Mitra are also in the poll fray in this phase of election.

The President Of India Pranab Mukheree has appointed the senior-most Election Commissioner, Dr. Nasim Zaidi as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission.
Dr.Nasim Zaidi will assume the charge of office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from the 19th April, 2015 vice Shri Harishankar Brahma consequent upon his demitting the office of the Chief Election Commissioner on the 18th April, 2015.
