Sedition case was registered on Friday against a Ludhiana resident
. As per DGP Dinkar Gupta , police have registered 34 cases so far, of which 27 were lodged between March 21 and April 6.
The Ludhiana resident had allegedly misled people about the availability of critical medical equipment besides “spreading hatred” against the state government
The DGP had earlier this month constituted a special team headed by a ADGP-ranked officer to monitor all social media platforms to check any instance of fake news or information.

The total number of positive cases stood at 38.
Of this,
19 cases were reported from Nawanshahr,
six each from Mohali and Hoshiarpur,
five Jalandhar and
one each from Amritsar and Ludhiana.
A Nawanshahr patient died, while another was discharged from Amritsar hospital after his test report came negative.

The Punjab government on Sunday announced that banks would remain open on March 30 and 31 to facilitate people in their financial transactions, amid the curfew restrictions due to coronavirus pandemic.
From April 3 onwards, all bank branches shall be open for two days of the week, on a rotation basis,
The deputy commissioners (DCs) of the state have been asked to extend necessary support and ensure other requisite items during relaxation to the banking staff, the release said.
On March 31, a special clearing of all government cheques will be conducted.
Though April 1 is a non-public dealing day for the banks, the DCs have been asked to provide requisite passes to the bank staff on that day too
This was followed up with orders from the Ministry of Finance and Reserve Bank of India on 27th March, 2020

Public Works Minister Punjab Mr. Vijay Inder Singla , announced this suspension
Singla said that as many as 23 toll plazas were operational under state government in Punjab.
The cabinet minister said that the curfew has been announced in the state and only emergency vehicles are plying on the roads which required to move rapidly. He added that it has been decided that the situation arising out of the said epidemic shall be construed as a Non-Political Force Majeure event in terms of the Concession Agreement.
Mr. Singla also puts PWD rests houses across Punjab at the disposal of health department by allowing them to use these as isolation centres in any crucial situation.

In many parts of the state, the curfew was relaxed from 6 am to 9 am for buying milk, vegetables and fruits and then from 8 am to 11 am for purchasing groceries and medicines
Though milk was delivered at people’s doorstep in most parts of the state, they were allowed to visit neighbourhood shops for buying vegetables and other items of daily needs
On Tuesday, the state government had announced that Deputy Commissioners will ensure door-to-door delivery of essential commodities such as groceries, milk, fruits and vegetables through pre-identified hawkers or distributors, wherever possible.
However, people at many places complained of being forced to pay more for buying vegetables and fruits, as per reports. While newspapers at several places were not delivered on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, police had registered 232 FIRs and arrested 111 people for the curfew violation.
Punjab had imposed a state-wide curfew on Monday as a measure to check the spread of the deadly infection. It has reported 29 coronavirus cases so far.

The Punjab government on Sunday decided to enforce lockdown in the entire state till March 31 in the wake of the threat of coronavirus.
Punjab has so far reported 14 cases of coronavirus.
Eleven more persons tested positive for coronavirus in Punjab on Saturday, taking the total number of confirmed cases of the infection to 14 in the स्टेट

As of now, testing of 181 samples has been conducted and out of which, reports of 141 persons came negative

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had on Friday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a fiscal package to combat the coronavirus crisis and permission for private hospitals and labs to conduct tests for detecting the virus.
Singh had expressed grave concern over the escalating COVID-19 crisis while taking part in the deliberations during a video conference convened by Modi with all chief ministers to review the situation.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Friday appealed to non-resident Indians (NRIs),
The appeal came after three positive cases of the virus in Punjab had travel history to other countries.
During this time, a large number of NRIs from other countries visit their native places in Punjab. Doaba region comprising Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Nawanshahr districts in Punjab is a well known belt of NRIs.
Notably, Punjab’s first positive coronavirus patient had travel history to
Italy and the second person, who died on Wednesday in Nawanshahr had returned
from Germany via Italy.
A 69-year-old Mohali woman, who tested positive for the virus on Friday, had recently returned from the United Kingdom.
