[New Delhi] PETA Appeals To Turn Vegan For Water Conservation
Animal rights body PETA is urging people to turn vegan as it stated that the “farmed-animal” industry places a “serious strain” on water supply.
On the eve of World Water Day, a volunteer of the NGO today took a shower at Jantar Mantar as part of a campaign to remind passersby that water can be saved if people gave up consuming meat, eggs and dairy foods.
The event sought to draw attention towards the impact of the meat industry on the worldwide water crisis.
PETA India campaign assistant Neerja Khede. said “Meat production can require 10 times more water than the production of plant-based foods. To produce 1kg meat, it can require the same amount of water that is used for bathing 75 times — an alarming drain on a precious resource,”
A vegan is a person who does not eat or use animal products.

[Madurai,TN]Bull Taming Sport Lovers Now Protest For Traditional “Jallikattu” .
Jallikattu Supporters Today Lodged Protests including ‘human chain’ demonstration,in parts of the district seeking nod for conduct of this popular sport.
Some people in these areas had tonsured their heads and blocked roads demanding conduct of the sport.
About 1,000 persons, including owners of bulls and bull tamers, held hands to form a chain and staged a demonstration at Alanganallur, They also took out a rally from Iyappan temple to Vadivasal, holding black flags,
The protesters also included women.
At Palamedu, hundreds of people, including bull tamers and owners of bulls, staged a demonstration.
They took out a rally from the bus stand to Vadivasal, shouting slogans against the organisation, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). They also burnt an effigy of the organisation,
Hundreds of police personnel had been deployed at Alanganallur and Palamedu where jallikattu is hugely popular.
The Supreme Court on January 12 had stayed a notification of the central government allowing the traditional sport of Jallikattu, a key element of Pongal festivities.
They also had staged demonstrations with their bulls in tow even as police disallowed such protests.Prior to its ban by the UPA dispensation in 2011, Jallikattu was organised as a grand spectacle with the event in Alanganallur, Palamedu and Avaniyapuram in Madurai drawing huge crowds, including domestic and foreign audiences.

महा नियंत्रक [ड्रग] डॉ जी एन सिंह ने पशुओं पर किसी रासायनिक लेप या उसके संघटक के प्रयोग पर पाबंदी लगा दी है| यह एतिहासिक निर्णय पेटा [PETA ] और सांसद श्री मति मेनका गाँधी के लगातार प्रयासों से संभव हुआ है| पेटा ने गर्व के साथ यह सूचना देते हुए बताया कि कांग्रेस अध्यक्षा श्री मति सोनिया गाँधी |भाजपा के पी एम् इन वेटिंग एल के अडवाणी+मंत्री संतोष चौधरी+ वाई आर सिंधिया+डॉ मिर्जा महबूब +डॉ चैतन्या कोडुरी आदि हस्तियों ने पेटा के इस अभियान को आगे बढ़ाया जिसके फलस्वरूप यह एतिहासिक निर्णय संभव हुआ| गौर तलब है कि यूरोप और इजराईल में यह प्रतिबन्ध लगाया जा चुका है जिसके पश्चात [ European Union’s and Israel’s bans ]डी सी जी आई को भारत में निर्णय लेने में कोई परेशानी नही हुई|
इस एतिहासिक जीत पर पेटा ने अपने समर्थकों को बधाई और धन्यवाद दिया|
तमिल नाडू में जल्लीकट्टू त्यौहार में बैलों पर अत्याचार बंद हो:पेटा
पशुओं के कल्याण को समर्पित संस्था पेटा [ PETA ] ने तमिल नाडू में मदुरै [ Madurai ]डिस्ट्रिक्ट के तीन विभिन्न स्थानों पर पशुओं [साँड़/बैल BULL[ पर अमानवीय अत्याचार के विरुद्ध आवाज उठाई है| संस्था द्वारा जारी रिपोर्ट के अनुसार मदुरै में जल्लीकट्टु [ jallikattu ] नामक प्रतियोगिता के नाम पर बैलों को ठीक सरकार की नाक के नीचे गैर कानूनन यातनाएं दी जाती हैं| पूँछ मरोड़ने से लेकर छुरेऔर नुकीले भाले तक घोंपे जाते हैं|
केंद्र सरकार आदेशों के बावजूद माननीय सुप्रीम ने तमिल नाडू में कुछ प्रतिबंधों के साथ मान्यता दे दी है| लेकिन ऐसे किसी भी गाईड लाइन को फोलो नही किया जा रहा| बैलों के अलावा खिलाड़ियों की मृत्यु तक हो जाती है|
पेटा[ PETA ] ने हाल ही में तमिल नाडू के जल्लीकट्टू एक्ट २००९ के विरुद्ध सुप्रीम कोर्ट में पेटीशन दाखिल की है|,
गौरतलब है कि जल्लीकट्टू अर्थार्त [Eruthazhuvuthal,] तमिल नाडू के विशेष कर मदुरै+पलामेदु[ Palamedu ] अलंगनल्लुर [ Alanganallur, ]में पिछली चार शताब्दियों से पोंगल त्यौहार का मुख्य आकर्षण माना जाता है| जनवरी से जुलाई तक खेला जाने वाला यह त्यौहार कभी महिलाओं कि ख़ास पसंद हुआ करता थासभी जातियों की महिलाओं को अपने वर को तलाश करने में सहायता मिलती थी |जल्लीकट्टू को सिक्कों की थैली भी कहा जाता है|बैल के सींग पर सिक्कों की थैली इनाम स्वरुप बाँधी जाने लगी
लेकिन कालांतर में इस खेल में भी दोष आने लगे दो दशकों में ही दो सौ के मरने के खबर है| २००४ में ही ५ लोगों की मृत्यु और अनेको घायल हुए |पशु प्रेमियों ने इस की रोक थाम के लिए अदालतों की शरण लेनी शुरू की जिसके फलस्वरूप कुछ नियम बनाये गए लेकिन पेटा का आरोप है कि इनका पालन नही किया जा रहा और निरीह पशुओं का वध जारी है|
