[Chd,Pb]Contractual Employees of Punjab Roadways Go on Strike
Contractual employees of the state-owned Punjab Roadways Tuesday went on a three-day strike in support of their demands including regularisation of their jobs and increase in salary.
More than 1,500 buses stayed off the road across Punjab, causing inconvenience to passengers.
Under the banner of Punjab Roadways Punbus Contractual workers union, the protesters are mostly drivers and conductors.
“Contractual employees have been working for the past several years but they have not been regularised,”
They claimed that drivers and conductors were being paid a meagre amount of Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per month as salaries.
The protesters held demonstrations at several bus depots including the ones at Ludhiana and Amritsar and did not allow the movement of buses.
They also raised slogans against the state government for not acceding to their long pending demands.
The state administration deployed police force at the bus depots to prevent any untoward incident.
Contractual workers have also threatened to ‘gherao’ the residence of Punjab Transport minister Razia Sultana at Malerkotla in Sangrur on July 3 as part of their protest.

Vehicle Tracking System be set up in all the PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways buses. Likewise all the bus stands situated in the state would have access to free wifi & internet facility.
It was disclosed by Mrs. Razia Sultana, Transport Minister in a press communiqué after presiding over a meeting with General Managers of PRTC and Punjab Roadways held at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. She said that Vehicle Tracking System would give real time position of any bus plying in the state She said that the success of Vehicle Tracking System has been tested in 350 PRTC buses and now this system would be installed in all the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC buses.
The Transport Minister said that Regional Transport Authority would conduct surprise checking to check the schedule timing of bus routes. She said that action against the violators of the scheduled timing of bus routes would be taken at the spot. She said that General Manager would assist the RTAs and provide every information during this surprise checking.
The Minister said that the Punjab Government would soon extend free Wifi & internet facility to the citizen at each bus stand of the state.

The two-year-old child stuck in a borewell shaft in Sangrur district was pulled out dead Tuesday morning, bringing a four-day rescue operation to a tragic end.
The chief minister had ordered closure of all open borewells across the state and sought reports from the deputy commissioners.
Officials said the work on the closure of open borewells would continue for a couple of days more.
According to reports received from various district authorities,
50 borewells have been sealed in Bathinda and
18 in Patiala.
As per Patiala Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit , 18 open borewells have so far been closed in the district and the work on the closure of other open borewells was still continuing.
As per officials ,Twenty-six open borewells were closed in Fatehgarh Sahib district, eight in Mansa, three in Kapurthala, two in Gurdaspur and one each in Rupnagar and Hoshiarpur districts,
In Rupnagar, where 19 borewells were reported to be lying unattended, one has already been covered and the process to close the rest was on.There was no open borewell found in Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar and Taran Taran districts
Two-year-old Fatehvir Singh, who fell into 150-foot-deep abandoned borewell was retrieved dead Tuesday morning in a rescue operation that lasted for almost 109 hours in Sangrur.
The Punjab government has come under fire from the 0opposition over the death of Fatehvir with rival political parties blaming it for the “botched up” rescue operation that led to the death of the toddler.

Punjab state agriculture department has sent a proposal for the increase in the MSP to the Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP)
The department demanded that the wheat MSP should be increased from Rs 1,840 per quintal to 2,710 per quintal, a jump of Rs 870 over the 2018-19 rabi season.
It has demanded that the MSP of barley be increased from Rs 1,440 per quintal to Rs 1,974 per quintal.
The proposal also sought a hike in the MSP of gram from Rs 4,620 to Rs 5,631 per quintal, and of rapeseed and mustard from Rs 4,200 to Rs 5,384 per quintal.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said in a release that the Centre’s intervention was needed to support these measures.
The CM reiterated his demand for the implementation of the MS Swaminathan Commission report to ensure the much-needed improvement in the agriculture sector and better remuneration for farmers.

Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has been left out of the eight consultative groups constituted by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to accelerate implementation of his government’s flagship programmes.
Sidhu and Medical Education and Research Minister Om Prakash Soni have not been made part of any of the groups, which include some MLAs and officials.
Sidhu, who has been at loggerheads with Singh, was divested of local government, tourism and cultural affairs portfolios and given power and new and renewable energy sources department in rejig on Thursday.
The CM heads the consultative group on urban renewal and reforms, which also includes new Local Government Minister Brahm Mohindra.
Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa heads the group on farm debt waive, another flagship scheme. It includes Revenue Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot as members.
Health Minister Balbir Sidhu heads the group on health insurance scheme.
The group on ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ scheme on job creation is headed by Employment Generation and Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Food and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu heads a group on food security with Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Social Security Minister Aruna Chaudhary.
Bajwa leads a group on rural development, while Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu heads the group on ‘Mission Tandrust Punjab’.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, Capt Amarinder Singh urged him to advise ministries of Home, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Health and Family Welfare to address the issue.
The chief minister sought Modi’s personal intervention for the formulation of a national policy focusing on three components — enforcement, de-addiction and prevention — to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the country.Singh said a national policy would enable all states to follow a similar, if not the same, approach on drug abuse, which, he said, “has substantially hampered the health of the people, particularly the youth”.
The chief minister expressed his state’s willingness to associate with the officers concerned of the Centre not only to evolve the policy but also to put in place an effective mechanism for its implementation.
In his letter to Modi, Singh also touched upon several steps which the Congress government in Punjab has taken during the past two years to check the drug menace and to expand its outreach at the grassroots to make towns and villages “drug-free”.
He also sought financial support from the Centre to increase the number of Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) clinics in Punjab, which he said, are currently being run on “meagre state resources”.

Capt Lays Foundation Stone Of Vegetable Processing Plant in Samrala
[Samrala,Pb] Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a Vegetable Processing Plant, being set up jointly by IFFCO and one of Spain’s leading companies in food processing Congelados de Navarra (CN Corp).
Laying the foundation stone near Samrala, the Chief Minister said the project was aligned to his vision for the state’s rapid industrialization to create jobs for the youth and boost revenue for Punjab.
Pointing out that the state government’s new industrial policy had been received extremely well, Captain Amarinder said the revival of the Mandi Gobindgarh industrial belt had seen 600 exiting units restore operations, with 40 new units also investing in the region. His government, said the Chief Minister, had so far inked 299 MoUs worth Rs 51,969 cr with several companies. Further, he disclosed that 650 new projects worth Rs. 46902 cr with a proposed employment of 167,309 have come up during the tenure of his Government.

The price of petrol has risen by 83 paise per litre in the nine days and diesel by 73 paise, according to price notifications of state-owned oil companies.
Petrol price on Tuesday was raised by 11 paise and diesel by 5 paise.
In Delhi, petrol now costs Rs 71.86 per litre, up from Rs 71.03 price on May 19. Similarly, a litre of diesel costs Rs 66.69, up from Rs 65.96 a litre on May 19.
Petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 77.47 per litre and diesel is priced at Rs 69.88.
Punjab Govt has also hiked rates of Electricity in the State .Electricity “Per Unit” And “Kilowatt Rates” are raised @ 2.14% and Rs 10/- Per kilowatt
