The redevelopment project of the Central Vista — the power corridor of the country — envisages a new triangular Parliament building, a common Central Secretariat and the revamping of the three-km-long Rajpath from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate and new residences for the prime minister and the vice president.
The CPWD, which is executing the project, had revised its estimated cost from Rs 11,794 crore to Rs 13,450 crore.
“Central Vista is criminal wastage. Put people’s lives at the centre — not your blind arrogance to get a new house,” he said on Twitter.
Gandhi and his Congress party have been asking the government to shelve its plans on the central vista project and give priority to improving medical infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic to save people’s lives.
The work on the project has continued despite the lockdown in the national capital that has brought most construction sites to a grinding halt. The construction work for the project has been brought under the ambit of “essential services”, a move that been flayed by the opposition.

कांग्रेस के पूर्व अध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी ने कोरोना वायरस संक्रमण के मामले बढ़ने को लेकर बृहस्पतिवार को सरकार पर निशाना साधा और आरोप लगाया कि जरूरी चिकित्सा सुविधाओं के अभाव के बीच टीका का उत्सव एक ढोंग है।
उन्होंने ट्वीट किया, ‘‘ना टेस्ट, ना अस्पताल में बेड, ना वेंटिलेटर, ना ऑक्सीजन……, टीका भी नहीं है, बस एक उत्सव का ढोंग है। पीएम केयर्स …?’’
देश में सुबह आठ बजे तक जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार, बीते 24 घंटे में कोरोना वायरस संक्रमण के 2,00,739 मामले आए जबकि 1,038 लोगों के जान गंवाने से मृतकों की संख्या बढ़कर 1,73,123 हो गई है।
नए मामले आने से देश में संक्रमण के मामले बढ़कर 1,40,74,564 पर पहुंच गए हैं।

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi government over the state of the economy and said it needs to give money to the poor to restart the economy through consumption.
Gandhi said “distractions” through media won’t help the poor or make the “economic disaster disappear”.
His attack on the government came after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Tuesday that demand in the economy will take quite some time to mend and that an assessment of aggregate demand during the year so far suggests that the shock to consumption is severe.
“Give money to the poor, not tax cuts to industrialists. Restart economy by consumption,” the former Congress chief tweeted.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday condemned the attack on Dalits by policemen in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district, saying “our fight is against this injustice”.
A purported video of the incident on social media showed the police hitting a Dalit man mercilessly with batons and his wife and others trying to save him.
Sharing the video of the assault on Twitter, Gandhi said, “Our fight is against this mindset and injustice”.
Officials had said that a Dalit couple, who were being removed from a plot of government land allotted for a college in Guna city, consumed pesticide in protest on Tuesday.
“The (farm) land was reserved for a government model college. Rajkumar Ahirwar (38) and his wife Savitri (35) were working on the land. Gabbu Pardi, who had encroached on the land, had given them work,”District Collector S Vishwanathan had said.
The two also refused to go to hospital so the police had to use force to take them to hospital, the collector had claimed.
Taking serious view of the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered transfer of the collector and Superintendent of Police.
